His Excellency Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, visited the UAE University in Al Ain and met with His Excellency Professor Mohamed Albaili, Vice Chancellor of the university, and other senior officials to discuss ways of cooperation between the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and the national higher education institution. Areas of common interest included scientific research and exchange of expertise as well as training programs for students.
In an introductory presentation, Professor Ahmed Murad, Dean of the College of Science, and Professor Bhanu Chowdhary, Dean of the College of Food and Agriculture, provided overviews of their respective colleges’ future plans and highlighted their research achievements in the fields of climate change and the environment.
His Excellency Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi said: “In line with its drive to forge partnerships with academic and research institutions to share knowledge and support talent, the Ministry is proud to collaborate with the UAE University. With its wealth of experience, this eminent institution plays a vital role in enhancing the country's educational landscape, and developing the skills and capacities of its youth to their full potential.”
He added: "Today more than ever, young people in the UAE have a responsibility to address the challenges climate change poses for the planet. With its aptitude for coming up with innovative solutions and adopting the latest technologies and means of communication, our young generation is well-poised to promote sustainable behaviors, preserve our environment and ensure a prosperous future for the next generations.”
For his part, His Excellency Professor Mohamed Albaili said: "The UAE University has several research centers that focus on various aspects of the environment, such as food security, food science, veterinary medicine and soil studies. Supporting the efforts to meet the environmental and food needs of the country, the university works relentlessly to develop research programs in line with the latest scientific trends, and create a conducive environment for creativity and innovation.”
He added: “Strategic partnerships between ministries, government agencies and academic institutions are key contributors to the progress of the country and in the pursuit of innovative solutions to environmental and climatic changes that impact global policies and strategies.”
His Excellency Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi also toured the Khalifa Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology at the university, as well as several science laboratories and research facilities in Falaj Hazza.
