His Excellency Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, who served as the first Permanent Representative of the UAE to IRENA, was also in attendance. The UAE was the first country to appoint a permanent representative to the Agency in 2013.
Speaking on her new role, Her Excellency Dr. Nawal Alhosani said: “As a host and member country, the UAE has been a true partner to IRENA, supporting the Agency financially, politically and diplomatically. I am honored to represent the country at IRENA. On behalf of the UAE, I pledge to advance the Agency's mission to spearhead the use of renewable energy across the globe. “
Her Excellency Dr. Nawal Alhosani served as Deputy General Manager of Emirates Diplomatic Academy, Director of the Zayed sustainability Prize, and held several positions at the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar).
The Mission of the UAE to IRENA represents the country’s interests through promoting collaboration among the member states in advancing the renewable energy agenda worldwide.
Abu Dhabi has been home to IRENA since the Agency’s establishment in 2009. IRENA is the first full-fledged intergovernmental entity dedicated to the advancement of renewable energy, and the first and only international organization with headquarters in the Middle East. The Agency provides practical advice and support to developed and developing countries wishing to step up the efforts to adopt renewable energy. Furthermore, it serves as a platform for international cooperation and a hub of knowledge on renewable energy.
