Tuesday, 09 August 2016

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment will host a Youth Circle on Thursday, August 11 under the title 'Climate Change and Sustainability is Our Shared Responsibility'. The event is part of the "Youth Circles" initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai that aims at integrating youth in the UAE's development process by communicating with them and listening to their thoughts in finding solutions to various challenges.

The Youth Circle, which will be held at the Mleiha Archaeological Centre in Sharjah, will be hosted by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority and attended by His Excellency Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment and Her Excellency Shamma Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and head of the UAE Youth Council. The circle will highlight the pivotal role that the UAE plays in combatting climate change and advancing sustainability and its effect on the protection of natural resources. The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment believes that combatting climate change and advancing sustainable solutions is the role of the entire society and in particular the  youth who can play an important role in transforming environmental challenges into opportunities.

His Excellency Dr. Al Zeyoudi said: "The youth are the most effective segment of society when it comes to raising awareness and communicating with the rest of society. Through this circle, we aim at highlighting the important role of youth in achieving a sustainable future and combatting climate change, this comes as part of the country’s efforts to prepare for a post-oil economy. We are also trying to encourage them to pledge their support in spreading awareness of these issues amongst their families, schools or university colleagues and through social media."

The UAE Youth Council oversees these circles and organizes them in various parts of the country to provide a platform for the integration of youth in the different fields that affect the future of the country. The circles also allow youth to present their ideas and discuss the best practices and challenges in vital areas. One of the most important areas, which is line with the initiatives of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, is environmental education and spreading its concepts to contribute to the mitigation of climate change effects and increase the awareness of sustainability.
