Heavy rains in early August results in collection of 54,000 cubic meters of water in dams and barriers across the Eastern Region

H.E. Eng. Mariam Mohammed Saeed Hareb, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Water Resources and Nature Conservation, Ministry of Environment and Water, reported that the heavy rains experienced last Sunday (August 2, 2015) has led to water harvesting estimated of 54,000 cubic meters of water or equivalent to 12 million gallons in the reservoirs of dams and breakers located in the Eastern Region.

She added that the heavy rains witnessed in the Masafi area resulted in the flow of wadi Ham and filling the reservoir of Ham Dam (b)  at Al Batna village, along with flood water from the spillway of the dam, as well as the flow of  wadi Siji with an estimated accumulated amount of 42,000 cubic meters of water in the dam of Ham (b) by a height of up to 3.1 meters, while the estimated accumulated amount of water in the dam Siji breaker1 is estimated at 12,000 cubic meters of water and a height of up to 2.4 meters.

 The Ministry of Environment and Water recently announced that after heavy rains last July 14 and July 27, 2015 the amount of water that has been harvested in the breakers and dams in the Central Region estimated 619,300 cubic meters of water equivalent to 136 million gallons.
