MOEW Organizes a Workshop on Livestock Development

Sunday, 05 January 2014

The Ministry of Environment and Water organized a workshop on the development of livestock for sheep breeders at the headquarters of the Ministry in the Eastern Region.

The ministry organized this workshop to achieve its strategic goals represented in enhancing food security and increase rates of bio-security. In addition, the workshop is a result from the initiative “Halalna” which launched by the ministry in March 2013 to provide immunization services, treatment and counseling for livestock and their breeders to raise awareness of such important issues.

The workshop included a lecture on the most important epidemic animal diseases that infects sheep flocks and the methods of prevention. As well as addressing the articles of the law on the prevention of contagious and epidemiological animal diseases and control, which was issued recently, which requires every person to report any epidemic disease in any animal as per the 38 diseases listed in the law.

Awareness of the breeders was discussed to educate them about the signs of diseases that can appear in the herds, to inform the competent authorities as fast as possible to take precautionary measures and to prevent the spread of the disease and its negative impact on the health of livestock and the safety of their products.

The workshop included a lecture on the proper ways to deal with veterinary medicines, how to treat animals, the importance of adhering to the circulation of animal products after the expiration of the medication prescribed, and to preserve the safety of food products of animal origin from the presence of residues of drugs and antibiotics related to negative effects on human health.

The workshop included a discussion between trainers and breeders of livestock with respect to the attention and care of livestock, and on how to find solutions to the problems facing animal breeders.

It is worth mentioning that this workshop is part of a program that includes a series of workshops that will be organized in different regions in order to communicate with breeders, and to raise awareness about health management of herds, as well as to benefit livestock breeders economically by increasing the productivity of their herds and thus increasing the yield of the profits that they earn.
