The Ministry of Environment and Water has employed a new technology utilizing drones to inspect and monitor quarrying sites within the UAE. This move comes as part of the Ministry’s efforts to comply with government directives to create an environmentally friendly and fully integrated infrastructure, while strengthening its global position in leadership innovation.
The new technology works through a remote control which directs the plane to the designated place. The progress is filmed using 3D holographic technology to transmit detailed, high-quality topographical maps to enable users to monitor and control any activities carried out within quarrying sites. The technique will be crucial to local authorities responsible for audits and inspection as it will strengthen communication channels between the Ministry and the handlers. The new technology will also ensure the compliance of regulations within the facilities and control potential environmental abuses.
H.E. Ghanem Al Shamsi, Assistant Undersecretary of External Audit Sector, ministry of Environment and Water, said that the Ministry has adopted the use of the drone’s technique to better assess the efficiency of federal legislations meant to enhance environmental sustainability and organize enterprises operating crushers and quarrying sites. The Ministry launched this initiative to raise the standard of auditing techniques and ensure that they maintain a high level of monitoring accuracy. It is also due in large part to the UAE’s move to transform into a smart government and fulfill H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE’s declaration of 2015 as the ‘Year of Innovation.’
The technology is set to usher in a new innovative phase for auditing and inspection to ensure no one is in violation of the legislation’s provisions. Al Shamsi emphasized that the Ministry launches such projects in line with the strategic plan to improve environmental performance and enhance environmental sustainability as part of the UAE Vision 2021 National Agenda.
