The UAE Ministry of Environment and Water, in collaboration and coordination with the UAE Ministry of Interior, has closed a crusher plant in Al Hail area of Al Fujairah for a month for violating legislative provisions regulating its work. It has been closed as per the Cabinet Resolution no. (20) of 2008 regarding regulating jawbreakers and quarries and transporting their products, and Cabinet Resolution no. (110) of 2012, regarding regulating guidance lines on planning, operating and executing the tasks of facilities of crusher plants and quarries
H.E. Sultan Abdullah Alwan, Assistant Undersecretary of External Auditing, the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water, stated that the decision to close the crusher plant came after several visits to the field. Specialists from the Ministry’s external auditing sector visited the locations of crusher plants and quarries at Al Hail in Al Fujairah to assess the effectiveness of federal legislations, which regulate the facilities operating in this sector, in order to support the sustainability of the environment.
“The auditors’ report indicated the existence of dust resulting from moving and loading as well as from main feeding units, filtering, and transporting belts due to failure to maintain the covers of central feeding units. There were other violations too of the federal legislations regulating the work of quarries and jawbreakers, including failure to install their curtains and absence of guiding signs,” he added.
Alwan indicated that the jawbreaker is the first one to be closed in 2014. He reiterated the Ministry's keenness to execute control operations periodically to assess that quarries and jawbreakers are abiding to all federal legislations, regarding regulation, and planning and execution work which supports environmental sustainability, as it is one of the most important objectives of the Ministry and an essential element to become world leader, as a manifestation of the UAE Vision 2021
