His Excellency Engineer Saif al-Shara’, the Assistant Undersecretary for Agricultural and Livestock Affairs, met with the technical team of the Department of Veterinary Services and the Malaysian Department of Islamic Affairs (JAKIM), at the Ministry of Environment and Water Headquarters in Dubai. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Food Control Department and the Department of Veterinary Services in Dubai Municipality, representatives of the Food Control Department at Sharjah Municipality, representatives of the Emirates Factory for the production of camel milk and its derivatives in Dubai (Camelicious) and Unipix Factory for dairy products, and representatives from the ministry concerned departments.
The objectives of the visit was to hold talks with the concerned authorities in the country for the export of cow and camel food and dairy products from the UAE to Malaysia. The delegation is set to hold meetings and field visits to observe veterinary services, animal health procedures, veterinary quarantine, and food safety system followed in the country, in addition to visiting certain facilities which process and package camel milk in the country.
H.E. Engineer Saif al-Shara’ welcomed the Malay team and stressed on the ministry’s support for bilateral relations between the two countries in various agricultural fields, for overcoming the obstacles found, and for facilitating the procedures for promoting the export of agricultural and animal products in collaboration with the private sector. H.E. Al Shara’ reviewed the advanced stages reached by the United Arab Emirates in the field of food safety, animal health, legislations, and the important role played by the ministry in cooperation with the local authorities concerned with food safety through procedures control; to ensure safe food marketing, and to open new markets to export national products .
During the meeting, a presentation was given that includes all the details related to livestock, animal health procedures, methods of surveillance and control of animal diseases, monitoring residues in food, and quarantine practices. In addition, a detailed explanation about the food safety system in the country and the terms and conditions for approving Islamic associations supervising the halal food.
