His Excellency Sultan Alwan, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Water Resources and Nature Conservation, met with a delegation from Japan at the Ministry’s headquarters in Dubai. The meeting covered topics on bilateral cooperation between the UAE and Japan, especially in the field of natural fisheries and aquaculture development. Also present during the meeting were Engineer Maryam Saeed Hareb, Director of Project Management and Salah Al Raisi, Director of Fisheries. The meeting falls in line with the Ministry’s continuing efforts to protect and develop the country’s natural fisheries and promote investments in the fish farming sector.
H.E. Alwan welcomed the Japanese delegation and expressed the significance of the joint cooperation between the UAE and Japan, particularly in the continuing move to further develop and preserve local fisheries and attract more investment into fish farming. He explained that the Ministry remains fully committed in the move to advance the fish farming segment and increase its contribution to the country’s food production. He cited that the success of the recently held ‘Aqua Middle East Exhibition and Conference’ represents a strategic step to strengthen the cooperation with investors and those interested in fish farming from different countries.
The meeting covered discussions on the current status of the UAE’s fisheries sector and the Ministry’s efforts to develop the fish farming industry. The two parties reviewed current marine research being carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Water and the possibility of the exchange of information and experiences between the two countries in the field of marine research and studies. The Japanese delegation expressed its readiness and commitment towards providing the Ministry with all their expertise and contributing to future projects that serve the local fish sector.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Japanese delegation expressed their thanks and appreciation to the Ministry for the warm welcome they received and expressed confidence in the prospects of stronger cooperation between the two countries. The group also congratulated the Ministry of Environment and Water for its successful organization of the ‘Aqua Middle East Exhibition and Conference,’ stressing on the important role it played in the move to reinforce bilateral ties between Japan and the UAE.
