Bin Fahad Inaugurates the Marine Workshop at Diba Fujairah

His Excellency Dr. Rashid Ahmad Bin Fahad, the Minister of Environment and Water the Marine Workshop at Diba Fujairah in the presence of H.E. Sultan Bin Alwan, the Assistant Undersecretary for External Audit, H.E. Abdul Rahim Al Hammadi, the Assistant Undersecretary for Support Services, Engineer Nora Karam, the Director of the Eastern Region Office, and Mr. Sulaiman Al Khadiem, the President of Diba Fujairah Fishermen Cooperative Society Association, along with a number of officials and fishermen.

 

        The ministry aims through the inauguration of such workshop to upgrade the level of services provided to fishermen and to reduce fishing costs on them, in collaboration with the Diba Fujairah Fishermen Cooperative Society Association. The Marine Workshop provides these services for fishermen: maintenance and repair services to nearly 635 fishing boats owned by citizens and licensed by the ministry, installation of marine engines and cranes on board fishing boats, in addition to providing guidance to fishermen about the correct methods to how to operate  fishing boat engines to maintain them.

    The Minister of Environment and Water stated that the ministry has always sought to develop the infrastructure of the fishing sector in line with the rapid changes and to meet the needs of fishermen. His Excellency stressed on the importance of maintaining fish stocks since they are a renewed national resource that represents an economic and social importance in the country, and to organize its exploitation in order to ensure its sustainability; for it is considered as one of the pillars of enhancing food security.

    It is worth mentioning that the first marine workshop launched last year in Umm Al Quwain by the Ministry of Environment and Water, which offers its services to approximately 474 fishing boats, where 450 boats operate by oil and 24 boats operate by diesel fuel.
