Minister of Environment and Water honors strategic partners and media organizations during Third Partners Forum Bin Fahad: ‘Common responsibilities are essential in the efforts to promote environmental work in the regional and international arenas.’

H.E. Dr. Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water has honored the strategic partners of the Ministry as well as distinguished media institutions during the Third Partners Forum 2015 on Monday, December 21, 2015 at the Grand Hyatt, Dubai. The Forum was held the slogan “An effective partnership for sustainable environment for life” and featured the attendance of undersecretaries, senior officials, representatives from governmental institutions and semi-governmental institutions, companies, mass media, and partner organizations.

During his inaugural speech, H.E. Dr. Rashid Bin Fahad noted that that the many milestones that the Ministry has achieved would not have been possible without the steadfast support from various national, regional and international organizations. He added that the Ministry’s collaboration with its partners is in line with the national vision, established by H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, as well as H.H. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum, Vice president and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai.

He added that the success of an entity in achieving its vision and mission depends a great deal on its relations with the other entities, and strong partnerships are essential in all areas of operations and that emphasizing it could lead to faster solutions for environmental issues which will greatly benefit all members of society and the eco-system. A large number of public and private institutions including the academic community, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) and several media institutions play a crucial role in this regard.

During his speech, the Minister of Environment and Water highlighted that the idea of “common responsibility” is a fundamental issue in the work for global and local environmental. Furthermore, he added that the Ministry has always maintained good relations by making an effort to understand, survey, and address the partners needs and collaborating with them in developing mutually beneficial systems, policies, and the environmental procedures. He pointed out that objectives and strategical plans are developed after taking the opinions and suggestions of concerned parties, especially from strategic partners who play such an active role in helping the country achieve its objectives. 

H.E. Bin Fahad also mentioned that the Ministry has had many landmark achievements this year from the support of its strategic network that includes up to 160 organizations. He highlighted several of these key partnerships, such as the collaboration with the international organization hosting the meeting of the state parties at Montreal Protocol on substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer; the Round Table meeting to finance green projects 2016; the partnership with the academic community in launching the Water Atlas, which is the first-of-its-kind to monitor the country’s water bodies through interactive maps; partnering with the government in the launch and implementation of Green Emirates Development Strategy; formation of Emirates Green Development Council; and preparation of  the Green Economy Report and the Green Finance Report. In addition, H.E. Bin Fahad noted the Ministry’s partnerships with the private sector and media organization, which have provided strong support in raising environmental awareness, providing coverage to the Ministry’s various events and activities, and also preparing specialized reports about the environmental initiatives.

In conclusion, H.E. expressed his gratitude to the Ministry’s strategic partners for working in unison with the government to achieve their common objectives. He also emphasized his commitment towards continuously developing these partnerships, so that they may share in the responsibility of establishing peace.

Khalaf El Hammadi, Ministry’s Director of Institutional Development, also noted the most eminent environmental achievements in the field of international competitiveness and innovation, as well to the Ministry’s initiatives and accomplishments. He reviewed the vision and the mission of the Ministry as well as its strategic three-year plan launched in 2014 until 2016, as well as the strategic approach of the Ministry for 2017 to 2021.

Khalaf El Hammadi alluded to the the new strategy of the Ministry which will focus on six main objectives: promote health and the environment; change to the Green Economy sustainability of natural systems; enhance Agribusiness Entrepreneurship; establish leadership in service provided to the individuals; enhance the enforcement of environmental legislation and strengthen innovation in the institutional work environment.
