The Ministry of Environment and Water successfully conducted a seminar entitled ‘Bio-Security in Poultry Farms’ in the central region area. The workshop was particularly aimed at private poultry facilities as part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the productivity and contribution of these farms in the food security of the country.
Engineer Majd Al Herbawi, Director, Department of Animal Health and Livestock Development, Ministry of Environment and Water, shared that the seminar falls in line with the Ministry’s efforts to achieve the strategic objective of preventing livestock diseases by raising the efficiency of bio-security practices in the livestock farms. The workshop educated participants on how to reduce the risk of disease in poultry farms while also increasing productivity as a result of the correct implementation of the bio-security concepts and best practices.
Al Herbawi also pointed out that the activity is part of a series of seminars that will be organized this year for all types of productive farms. The seminars are being organized in collaboration with partners from the involved authorities of all the UAE and are designed to strengthen cooperation and ensure the achievement of the objectives set for these seminars.
The seminar focused on key topics, which included a review on the laws and decisions that regulate the livestock in the state, such as the Federal Law No. 8 of 2013, concerning the prevention of infectious animal disease and the importance of bio-security. Discussions were also held on the elements of bio-security, its divisions, and the implementation of bio-security plans in these productive farms.
An open forum was also held to assess the participants’ current experiences and practices and to make comparisons with the concepts that have been reviewed during the seminar. Towards the end of the event, a survey was conducted on the current challenges being faced in today’s poultry farms.
At the end of the seminar, the attendees expressed their appreciation to the Ministry of Environment and Water for their continued efforts towards increasing awareness and the implementation of modern practices and concepts, which in turn, have resulted in the further preservation and increased productivity of UAE livestock.
