H.E. Dr. Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water, met with Major General Mohammed Saeed Al Marri, Chairman of Dubai Fishermen’s Society, at the Ministry’s Dubai office to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation and boost the local fishing industry.
Both parties talked about several areas of cooperation, mutual interests and issues, and measures to develop and protect the emirate’s fish resources. They also looked into further consolidating the government’s support for the aquaculture industry, one of the most important growing sectors in the world, through increased investments.
The two sides also reviewed the new laws and regulations governing the industry and fishing profession, research proposals and ideas that promote growth, and ways to protect the entire sector from emerging dangers and threats.
H.E. responded positively to Dubai Fishermen’s Society’s proposals for supporting and contributing to the Ministry’s efforts to boost the sector. He assured that the Ministry will consistently review and update the existing laws and regulations with due consideration to all stakeholders.
Other Ministry officials who attended the meeting were H.E. Sultan Alwan, Assistant Undersecretary for Water Resources and Conservation; Salah al-Raisi, Director of Fisheries; and Engineer Yousef Al-Ahmad Al Raisi, Acting Director of the Government Communication Department.
