The Ministry of Environment and Water recently met with representatives of the Cooperative Associations for Fishermen at its headquarters in Dubai to discuss developments in the fishing industry and the means to unify the roles of all relevant parties to develop and conserve the sector for future generations.
The attendees included H.E. Abdul Rahim Al Hammadi, Undersecretary for the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water; H.E. Eng. Mariam Hareb, Assistant Undersecretary – Water Resources and Nature Conservation; and H.E. Sultan Alwan, Assistant Undersecretary of Region Sector.
The meeting falls in line with the Ministry of Environment and Water’s commitment to closely coordinate with local fishermen to promote the fishing profession and ensure the preservation of fisheries in the country. It was held to help boost the Ministry’s strategic goals of achieving food safety and promoting the sustainability of domestic production as key elements of UAE Vision 2021.
After welcoming the association’s representatives, H.E. Al Hammadi expressed his appreciation for their strategic efforts in preserving local fisheries. The Ministry consistently supports fishermen and initiatives to improve domestic fishing stocks in cooperation and coordination with its key partners.
The Undersecretary confirmed that the Ministry is working towards helping the sector face challenges and finding solutions that serve the public’s best interests. The Ministry also ensures balanced sustainable fisheries and promotes the fishing profession. Additionally, he pointed out the importance of working as a team with the local fishermen to achieve the UAE vision of a sustainable environment.
