Al Hammadi inaugurates annual ‘My Environment My Responsibility’ exhibition

H.E. Abdel Rahim Al Hammadi, Undersecretary for the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water ,inaugurated today (Tuesday, November 17, 2015) the 7th edition of the annual ‘My Environment My Responsibility’ exhibition at the Children’s City Al Khor Park in Dubai. Being held in collaboration with Dubai Municipality under the theme ‘Sustainability,’ the exhibition running until November 19, 2015, drew high-ranking representatives from various municipalities and environmental agencies on its opening day.

Al Hammadi said the event falls within the Ministry of Environment and Water’s initiatives to cultivate a better environmental mindset among community members, especially students, and raise their awareness about their responsibility in ensuring sustainable development and a clean environment. This reflects the Ministry’s goal of ‘Ensuring a Sustainable Environment for Life.’ 

The Undersecretary added that the participation of municipalities and environmental organizations from the public and private sectors demonstrates their concerted national efforts in addressing environmental issues and their sustainable development pursuits. H.E. also commended their contributions to ensuring that students are educated about the importance of the environment and natural resources. He noted that the exhibition is a leading platform in the field of environmental education and awareness .

This year’s edition highlights the three main areas: waste recycling and the rationalization of water and electricity consumption. Paying special attention to  students from Grade 6 till Grade 9, the event features several educational and awareness programs targeting young learners and other participants. The activities include lectures, workshops, brainstorming sessions for students, environmental films, innovative projects, and visits to the recently opened Department of Earth Sciences at the Children's City.

Participants of the event’s seventh edition include the National Council of Tourism and Antiquities, ministry of energy  Dubai Municipality, Fujairah Municipality, the Municipality of Umm Al Quwain, the Department of Public Works and Services - Ras Al Khaimah, the Department of Municipal and Planning - Ajman, the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah, Sharjah Municipality, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and the Emirates Heritage Club.  Other attendees are private companies such as Al Ain Distribution Company and Averda; civil society organizations such as the Environment Friends Association; and numerous schools which showcased their innovative projects in the field of waste management and energy and water consumption rationalization.
