His Excellency Dr. Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water inaugurated the sixth edition of the annual exhibition “My Environment My Responsibility” that is organized by the ministry and Sharjah Aquarium. The theme of this edition of the exhibition is “Preserving our Past to Protect our Future”, the event is taking place from the 17th to the 20th November in Sharjah Aquarium.
And HE Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water, one of the ministry’s main goals is to increase the level of awareness and instill the concept of environmental protection towards promoting a sense of responsibility within the community that will lead to actions of protection and conservation of the environment, and reaching to the highest standards of sustainable development and ensure a clean and healthy environment, especially by conserving the natural resources including the marine resources.
Bin Fahad confirmed that organizing the event in corporation with Sharjah Aquarium and Sharjah Maritime Museum and saw the participation of a number of local and private organizations like Ministry of Education, Abu Dhabi Education Council, Sharjah Environment Agency and Nature Conservation, Emirates Heritage Club, Dubai Municipality, Sharjah Municipality, Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority and Sharjah Traffic Authority, which translates the concrete efforts on a national level to counter the environmental issue and striving towards ensuring a sustainable development; and sustainable development is achieved through all segments of society and stakeholders.
His Excellency added that the inauguration of the event came in conjunction with “World Fisheries Day” falls in line the UAE’s strategies of sustainable development for water resources and live aquatic resources , following the lead of His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahayan UAE President and Shaikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, our government have a bundle of policies to find sustainable solutions for all the challenges and pressure affecting the sustainability of living aquatic resources, given that marine resources are considered one of the most important natural resources and is also considered a main pillar in achieving food security.
Bin Fahad stressed on the importance of collective efforts of federal, local and privates sectors to protect and sustain the living aquatic resources, he added that Ministry of Environment and Water lays on two main pillars, first the enactment of legislations and development of regulations and standards and monitoring them in corporation with federal and local authorities, fishing committees and associations across the country, to ensure sustainable fishing practices and develop the awareness of working individuals in the sector.
His Excellency lauded the role of partners for their contribution in educating the students on the importance of conserving and protecting the environment and natural resources, confirming that their role compliments the ministry’s efforts to achieve a sustainable environment and protecting the fish wealth in the country and the human and natural challenges our natural resources are facing. He also clarified that the My Environment My Responsibility, is a pioneering platform on a national level to raise the level of awareness and education on the importance of the environmental protection, His Excellency extended the invite to educational organization to encourage their students to attend the exhibition and learn about the importance of living aquatic resources in the country and learn about the way of protecting and conserving them to ensure a sustainable environment for life.
