The Ministry of Environment and Water recently participated in The 8th meeting of the Regional Commission for Fisheries (RECOFI) which was hosted by Sultanate of Oman Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, from the 12th - 14th May 2015.
During the 3 day event, featured topics relating to the aquatic resources where discussed by the participating countries, it included including the report on implemented programs from 2013-2015, and the reports of the Committee on Aquaculture and Committee on Fisheries, in addition to the regional system of aquaculture information.
Furthermore participants also discussed survey results examining the economic and social situation of the fisheries sector in the countries of RECOFI, in addition to prospect development initiatives along with topics of common interest related to the sector.
The RECOFI meeting and affiliated technical committees provide an excellent opportunity for researchers and policy makers to address pressing issues prevalent in the fisheries sector by exchanging opinions and information in the hopes of reaching viable solutions. The commission also enabled member states to voice out individual concerns and inviting them to suggest joint programs for improving the region’s fisheries and aquaculture sectors. The meeting also allowed representatives to share and assess data figures and information on the subject matter.
