H.E. Dr. Rashid Ahmad Bin Fahad, UAE Minister of Environment and Water, along with H.E Eng. Saif Al Shara, Assistant Undersecretary for Agricultural and Livestock Affairs, UAE MoEW, has met H.E. Mpetjane Kgaogelo Lekgoro, the Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa in the UAE, and his accompanying delegation to discuss collaborative potential between the two countries. Dr. Bin Fahad welcomed H.E. Lekgoro and assured him of significant mutual support in agriculture and animal resources sectors.
The delegation discussed topics of mutual interest and methods to further foster collaboration between the two countries. The meeting reviewed the possibility of importing fresh meat and poultry from South Africa in to the UAE in the light of the announcement made by former about the country’s livestock being free of foot and mouth disease (FMD).
Dr. Bin Fahad assured that the Ministry is regularly estimating and following up the condition of animal health and spread of animal diseases in the countries exporting animals to the UAE. in addition, MoEW is applying the procedures authenticated by international organizations concerned with the health of animal resources, assuring that the meat and poultry products from South Africa are of a high quality.
At the end of the meeting, H.E Lekgoro expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Ministry of Environment and Water for its warm welcome. He also commended the Ministry’s efforts for opening up of collaboration between the two countries.
