The UAE Ministry of Environment and Water has announced its participation at GITEX Technology Week 2015, the latest edition of the annual information and communication technology (ICT) exhibition which will be held from October 18 to 22, 2015 at the Dubai World Trade Center under the theme ‘The Internet Future of Everything. The Ministry will launch a number of innovative projects as well as showcase implemented projects and smart services for businesses and individuals in line with its efforts to support Dubai’s transformation to smart governance.
H.E. Ghanem Al Shamsi, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Water’s External Audit Sector, said that the Ministry’s presence in the exhibition comes as a strategic move to throw more light on its achievements in smart governance and introduce new projects underway to achieve a quantum leap with the latest and innovative smart technologies.
Al Shamsi stated that the Ministry seeks to achieve its strategic objective of ensuring delivery of administrative services with the highest quality, efficiency and transparency through new projects and innovative channels. In addition, it will launch smart applications to improve and streamline its services to complement the ‘Smart Government’ initiative launched by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide high-level services that meet the needs of customers.
H.E. Al Shamsi pointed out that in line with its objectives, the Ministry will showcase a range of projects and initiatives, including the ‘On Time’ system for the management of reviewers in various customer service centers. The service aims to reduce waiting time to allow traders to book tickets via smartphone. The mobile application will provide information on the number of dealers along with estimated time to meet the representative as well as the possibility of amending booking times.
Explaining further, H.E. Al Shamsi said that the most important project to be announced during GITEX will be the ‘Geographic Information System’ (GIS), which is a vital tool for supporting decision-making and forecasting of future operations, for which the Ministry has developed a special GIS strategic plan. GIS provides spatial data of high quality and accuracy for use in ensuring a sustainable environment.
The Assistant Undersecretary added that the Ministry will launch the ‘Sail’ game for smartphones dedicated to fishing lovers during GITEX Technology Week 2015. Developed by the students of Khalifa University for all age groups under the framework of strengthening cooperation between the University and the Ministry, the game features an interactive teaching style and provides the terms and conditions of fishing in the UAE.
Furthermore, H.E. Al Shamsi said that the Ministry will be unveiling the second version of the ‘My Carbon Footprint’ application to increase public awareness on the dangers of carbon emissions on Earth through a video urging people to reduce their carbon footprints. It will also pass a special questionnaire to assess the community’s awareness about the environment. The application will record all events held by the Ministry as well as contain an improved data entry process for calculating carbon footprint.
GITEX Technology Week 2015 will highlight the achievement of the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water towards smart transformation in its services provided through the ‘smart environment’ application which is available on the four main platforms for smartphones, thus directly contributing to the provision of services to all dealers around the world.
The Ministry urges the public to visit its stand within the Federal Government’s stand located at Platform No. S1- A21 at the venue’s Sheikh Saeed Hall.
