Her Excellency Dr. Maryam Al Shenasi, the Assistant Undersecretary for Technical Affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Water, held a coordination meeting at the Ministry headquarters in Dubai, today, with the Director of Purchases at the Union Cooperative Society, Mr. Yaqoob Al Belushi, to discuss the marketing of the organic product logo at all association centers.
Dr. Al Shenasi pointed out that the implementation of the organic inputs and products law comes under the Ministry's strategy framework to enhance food security in the country, in addition to setting a binding legal framework with regard to agricultural inputs used in organic farming, to lay clear foundations and criteria to regulate the organic inputs and products available at the market, and to define them by granting them a private label to distinguish them from other agricultural products.
During the meeting, Her Excellency has confirmed the importance of the organic product marketing logo at the branches of the Association and introducing the public to the trademark. Also, the future signing of a partnership agreement between the two sides was discussed, noting in this context that the ministry is working to open channels of communication between the organic production units and the local markets to help producers in marketing their products.
In addition, the Assistant Undersecretary for Technical Affairs confirmed that since the beginning of last September, all sales of organic products were banned, unless they bear the certified organic products logo which was created by the Ministry in partnership with the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology and was registered at the Ministry of Economy to guarantee the legal and technical support for the trademark. The logo represents four tree leafs above the word "Organic" in Arabic and English, as well as the initials the United Arab Emirates in English “UAE”.
