MOEW Ensures UAE Safety from Animal Diseases by Following-up the Updates of the Global System of Animal Health

Thursday, 11 October 2012

The Ministry of Environment and Water started using the global electronic system known as the global system for information on animal health in collaboration with the World Organization for Animal Health OIE

which aims to facilitate the reporting of the health status of animals in addition to the epidemiological situation of each country in the world, and the ministry is working through this program to communicate and query about sources of epidemics and their locations, so as to avoid their breakouts, in cooperation with organizations familiar with this system. Through the system, electronic reports are sent regarding epidemiological events, as well as information on the presence or absence of disease in the list of the World Organization for Animal Health, and the number of infected animals with these diseases, and any other epidemiological information.

Through the follow-up by the Ministry of Environment and Water for the system updates, the necessary regulations are issued as well as embargoes on countries that record the diseases’ cases, to protect the UAE from any animal epidemic diseases, especially the ones that could transmit to humans. Specialists are regularly trained in the concerned authorities in various member states to use the system and update it, where through this workshop, they receive an introduction to the mechanism of  using the map of  each member state at the organization, to be able to report the emergence of epidemics or animal diseases, and to send periodic follow-up reports in addition to filling out the annual forms.
