A Delegation from the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi visits the Research Center for Marine Environment

Within the framework of the existing cooperation and coordination between the Ministry of Environment and Water and other various environmental authorities, a delegation from the Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi has visited the Research Center of Marine Environment to learn about the latest techniques used in the field of breeding and increasing the aquatic organisms, to discuss future diverse plans on aquaculture

 to observe the role played through the research center in supporting fisheries in the UAE waters by the implementing the programs and the objectives of the ministry to promote food security and environmental security, and to develop modern knowledge and advanced technology and innovation by managing environmental resources and marine organisms by the best methods available, thus ensuring sustainability for future generations.

Engineer Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim Al Zaabi has presented a comprehensive overview of the activities of the Centre, which are based on the development of aquaculture and marine science and encountering marine environment pollutants. The delegation has been briefed the methods of selecting fish to be introduced within the cultivation programs that are concentrating on types of local economic fish that are exposed to overfishing, as well as clarifying the methods of nutrition and care according to the stage of growth of the fish.

The delegation took a field tour of the Center various sections accompanied by a group of engineers and technicians. The delegation took a look at the nursery for Mangrove seedlings and its cultivation areas to serve as an incubator for various types of marine environment organisms and birds. They also visited the hatchery, which produces local types of fish such as Hamour, She’ri, Safi, and Sobaity. The delegation visited as well the phytoplankton monitoring and controlling laboratory that are responsible for the Red Tide phenomenon, the fish diseases laboratory, and the fish biological studies laboratory.

   The delegation has praised and appreciated the exerted efforts since they are important to promote environmental security in the country.
