The Ministry of Environment and Water has celebrated the 18th National Environment Day for the second year in a row. This year’s edition was held under the theme ‘Green Economy: Innovation and Sustainability’ and saw the ministry asserting the green economy’s key role on the road to achieving sustainable development. The ceremonies threw the spotlight on creative and pioneering practices that are in line with the national strategy for innovation launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, last October 2014.
The event hosted the launch of the ‘Wall of Knowledge’, the ministry’s latest initiative which aims to equip people with crucial envir onmental concepts and knowledge using the latest innovative technology to ensure a broader reach and participation from UAE residents. It is also intended to educate the public on current environmental awareness programs and help enhance the performance of the various segments of the local community, on the occasion of the celebrations of the 18th National Environment Day
The Ministry also finalized preparations for the Environmental Ambassadors program which was designed to instill upon students the importance of their environmental responsibilities and duties, especially in the field of water conservation, energy and waste recycling – all of which will lay the foundations for a sustainable future
In addition, the Ministry has launched a website dedicated for the National Environment Day 2015 celebrations. It will provide partners and other interested parties with information and updates related to this year’s celebrations, along with other affiliated news.
The Ministry was eager to collaborate with relevant public and private institutions in creating this environmental event so all parties can stand together in solidarity and instill green principles among the youth in order to cultivate a socially conscious and environmentally aware generation equipped with the latest innovative eco-friendly practices.
