The slogan of this year highlights the impact of plastic pollution on migratory birds and their habitats, globally the numbers of dead seabirds due to the effects of plastics are increasing each year, where studies have indicated that 90% of seabirds have plastics in their guts. To reduce plastic contamination, the UAE has undertaken several initiatives and projects which aim to protect migratory birds. These are some of the projects implemented by the UAE to reduce plastic pollution and protect birds:

- Adoption of Important Bird sites

-The most important bird sites in the country have been declared as nature reserves.

-Promotion of ecotourism through bird watching activities

-Cleaning campaigns for beaches

-Protection of birds through national laws and legislations

-Red List project-for birds

-Bird Breeding projects
