Al Jimi Oasis classified on the UNESCO World Heritage List, together with the five other oases in Al Ain, was once the property of the prominent Al Dhaheri family. It is signified by a 14 metre high watchtower, historic forts, mosques and fortified murabba residences dating to the 19th Century and possibly earlier.
Traditional falaj irrigation channels, employed for guiding water from underground aquifers to the date plantations and gardens are similarly in evidence. Central to the development of agriculture, architecture and society, their effectiveness has ultimately resulted in a constructive relationship with the desert environment.
